Health testing is something we are passionate about at Floresta Farm

You will find information relating to the health testing of our dogs on their individual pages and on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website (www.offa.org). We believe that regardless of whether you are looking for a show prospect or your new best friend, a healthy dog is the most important thing to purchase.

Recommended Testing

  • Cardiac Exam at 1 yr old
  • Patella Exam at 1 yr old
  • DNA-Juvenille Cataracts
  • CERF or OFA-Eyes
  • OFA Hip Radiograph at 2 yrs old

There are many genetic problems that can manifest in the French bulldog. Presently, health testing as recommended by CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) and the FBDCA (French Bulldog Club of America) includes testing and certification of hips, heart, patella, general CERF exam and DNA testing for Juvenille Cataracts. Dogs that pass all health testing will receive a certification number from the CHIC foundation. We recognize that it is unrealistic to expect every dog to pass everything all the time, however, that is why it is important to know the strengths as well as the areas that need improvement in a breeding program.

We encourage our colleagues that breed these wonderful dogs to also be actively involved in health testing. At the same time, we also encourage people looking for puppies to be aware of the importance of health testing the parents of their potential new puppy. As I tell my clients who may be looking for any type of a new puppy, “you might not want a show dog but you surely want a dog someone has put some thought into”. Please take the time to research the family behind your new addition and make informed decisions, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Floresta Farm has been given “Breeder of Merit” status with the American Kennel Club. This logo also appears on all registration papers from the puppies that are bred at our farm. The Breeder of Merit Program honors breeder/exhibitors’ dedication and hard work as they continue to produce dogs that are healthy, capable, and beautiful. The foundation of today’s AKC, Breeders of Merit have the power to influence, guide, and teach future breeders, exhibitors, and all purebred dog owners.
